A peak into my summer, lots and lots of photos

I thought I would show a peak into my summer by sharing some of the random photos I have posted on Instagram.

Warning: LOTS and lots of photos. And...this post is much less arty and more personal based then usual.

But to start it off, here is a look at some of the pages in my sketch book:

I started this smaller sketch book so that I could begin carrying one around with me at all times like I was once in the good habit of doing. This is the first page. My lil pen and ink Harpy goddess, she guards the sketch book well.

Mermaidynesss, all of these drawings are in ink.  I am using my fave drawing pens, Faber Castell Pitt Artists pens, which are full of India Ink.

This pen and ink drawing is inspired by the patterns I usually paint on my models when doing body painting for my "Goddess In All Of Us" and "Earth Goddess" series.

I call these creatures "Fish of Perception" and they have appeared throughout my paintings and drawings for some time now.

I have been particularly fascinated as of late with drawing creatures that have more then two breasts :)

A bit of my poetry followed by a pencil sketch.

....And now for the onslaught of random summer moments caught via crappy cell phone photos/instagram:

My favorite flowers are Morning Glories. They grew wild in the alley ways of my hometown, Venice Beach CA right along side the dog shit, bums, dumpsters and vomit :) I always thought there was an interesting poetry to them and the way they thrived. Unfortunately, you don't see them very often up in Portland Oregon... perhaps because most people consider them a weed. For a few years now I have been growing them on my patio in the summer.

They seemed to like the spirally trellis we made for them out of left over wire this year.

I am 100% positive certain fearys regularly make their homes inside morning glory flowers. I know I would certainly live in one if I was small enough.

Morning glories seen from the living room window.

We grew a lot of basil this year. Made lots of pesto!

Here is a basil clipping that is rooting by the window.

My tiny lil apartment patio.

Spent many a morning and afternoon this summer just sitting round drinking tea and drawing out there.

My cat, Sushi and the Gnome.

Around my birthday in August the berries were ripe everywhere you looked! I picked and ate sooo many.

Here is one of many black berry pies I made. Yum.

I have also been trying my hand at brewing my own Kombucha tea.

close up of one of the scobys. Yes, it looks horribly nasty but is actually quite yummy and extremely good for you.

...painting in my home studio space. Yes, see I did paint a bit! Not as much as I was hoping to, but summers are pretty crazy. Im sure as fall descends and the rain returns I will be spending much of my time at the easel.

Dead birthday flowers. Purdy.

...my go to dread up-do when I need them out of the way.

When Danny returned from his trip to India he brought me back a bunch of beautiful bindis, necklaces and a paisley shawl.

We took a lot of random road trips around oregon scouting out the landscapes of possible shoot locations for my new body painting photography series "Earth Goddess"

...who knew that ontop of everything else( misty forest, craggy seashore, waterfalls and more) Oregon  also has desert lands!

This is something I am missing already: Waking up with the sun in my face! Fall is already here and when I wake I'm greeted with darkness and mist( which of course is enjoyable on a different level.)

Fall is an amazing thing to witness up here and I'm looking forward to it.

I think I'm going to stop posting pictures now, although there's plenty more to be seen on my instagram account Lucid Rose, or see them here on instagrid.

My next post will most likely be about my recent explorations into the realm of urban art.

Sending love and light,
-Chelsea Rose

Started a new painting! Work In Progress photos

Ello folks!
Its Sunday night and I'm feeling pretty good about the weekend accomplishments.
Yesterday I sold my art down at the Portland Saturday Market and did really well. The weather was sweet and there was just a tun of people out and about. It really is starting to feel like spring.

And today I started a painting that has been rattling inside my head for about two months now:

Entwined WIP
This is my India ink drawing/outline over the stretched canvas.

...and a look at the first layers of acrylic color.

Oh! And I got a hold of this nifty HD wide screen digital camera, and I have been recording my self painting this peice and aim to have a full time lapse video of the creative process from start to finish. So yes, stay tuned to check that out!

...So thats that. More updates soonish.

Much love and light,

Finished Painting: The Specimen Collector + work in progress photos and news

I finished a painting and wanted to share it:
The Specimen Collector
The Specimen Collector
Original acrylic painting by Chelsea Rose

...I had a lot of fun painting and documenting the creative process with this piece:

The creative process began as a goofy pencil drawing made one rainy day at work while on lunch.

art projects in black and white
I then took the drawing home and drew out the concept on a stretched canvas.

Began adding the first rough color layers in the background and figure/flowers.

Work in progress acrylic painting
Really started having fun with painting the trees and working on her dress design.

Art studio snapshot
Here she was near completion next to my other current paintings in the works.
...So yes, shes all done. Now I'm just waiting for the paint to cure before gloss varnishing and then she shall be ready to be admired by the world!

In other news this weekend was one of those "don't want to leave the cozy bedroom" kind of days.

Thus, I setup my sketch box easel in the bedroom so that I could paint where it was warm while watching movies.

It was very nice. And I got a good bit of work done on my painting...she is almost finished!

I also am SUPER excited about how well my Kickstarter.com "Earth Goddess" fundraising project is going!

Only 3 days left and I have raised $930...which means I need to raise just $70 more to meet my goal of $1000. We can do it! Please donate if you can. The support will be greatly appreciated. Keep the "Earth Goddess" body art photography series alive!

Much Love and Light,
-Chelsea Rose

Long weekend filled with artly goodness

I am feeling much refreshed after the 3 day weekend.
On Saturday Danny Ebru and I did great selling our artwork down at the Portland Saturday Market.
On Sunday I concentrated on adding a bit more color ideas to my current acrylic painting in the works. Here is a snapshot of my progress so far:
my art corner
Im still working out the colors and patterns of her dress. A portion of the original dress pattern that I marked out wasn't pleasing me so I whited out what I had and plan to start on it again soon.

In addition to my painting project I also went outside into the field in front of our home and spent a half hour picking black berries from which I made a pie. I used a gluten/wheat free flour and honey instead of sugar and I am happy to report it turned out rather yummly indeed. Oh and baked some cornbread too!

On Monday I slept in a bit, did some work around the home and then Danny and I settled back into our art studio and continued to work on our projects:
Three Day Weekend
Danny was working on hand painting a silkscreen of a six armed sri shiva...cant wait to see what comes of it!

More artly goodness coming soon.

Love and Light,

Elephantress - new painting, Work In Progress photos and more

Hello all,
Just stoppin in to share with you the first few glimpses of my new painting during its process of creation:
Elephantress WIP
art table 09 01 2011
This piece is inspired by Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of wealth, light, prosperity, fortune, generosity and more. I always referred to her as the 'Elephant Goddess' which is incorrect....but she is usually depicted as a fresh faced goddess with many arms holding lotuses, surounded by elephants. So, you can see where I drew inspiration for this character. The green background works well with the themes of fortune and fertility too.
Excited to begin this painting...looking forward to working more on it soon!

Here is my original pen and ink drawing of her:

....I do have 5"x7" prints avilaible of her for $7 here.

In other news, this weekend Danny Ebru and I will be out sellin our art down at the Portland Saturday Market:

Come look for us, chat a spell and maybe, just maybe grab up some art while your at it!

I do so hope your summer has been enjoyable.
