Recent Spray Painting Experimentations

What with the Holiday's and all I have recently found some time to get back into experimenting with spray painting. Earlier this month I drove down to the Eugene Oregon free wall with friends and had a blast painting:

I started with this piece, inspired by my previous acrylic painting on canvas called The Seed which you can view or purchase a print of here

Here it is finished. It took about an hour and a half. I was pretty happy with it, but still abel to see things that I could improve upon…especially line weight control.

I started on one last piece and did it in a about 30 mins because it was getting pretty cold outside and my fingers were starting to go a bit numb.

This spEYEn character has been one of my most popular drawings and most commissioned designs in recent times, so I thought to give it a try in my new favorite medium, spray painting. I had a lot of fun doing the shading on the body and butt with the various colors.

I took a bunch of footage of the experience and made it into a short video. Watch it on my youtube channel: YouTube.com/ChelseaRoseArts

….And it turns out it was really good that I got some spray painting practice in because the following week I got the opportunity to do some spray painting in California with Jennifer Korsen, a female spray paint muralist that I admire.

Jennifer took me to one of her favorite places to paint called "The Fame Yard" which has some truly awesome artwork on the walls. I was honored and a little intimidated to paint at first but Jennifer was very encouraging and the space was so inspiring that I couldn't help but grab my paint cans and give it a go. So here we are, in the photo above, a couple hours into our paint session, happily painting the day away.

I was excited to see a bit of progress with my line weight and can control. My technique still needs a lot of work but practice makes perfect!

Here is my mermaid mural all finished!

And here we are together posing in front of our respective finished murals, grinning ear to ear.
It was such a fun day!

I am back from California now and looking over the photos, thus I was moved to make this post and share them with you. I hope you enjoyed!

I have a bunch of video footage from the day that I have edited into a video which you can check out right here

I hope your Holidays and New Year are filled with love and art!

July Art Show and tree goddess Mural!

So this happened and was great fun :

I got to paint a mural for the show, which will be up for the month of July:

I painted a tree goddess of sorts and enjoyed the process so much! I did the background with spraypaint, and then went in with black and white acrylic to create the creature.

I also did the smaller wall to the left in similar process, but with my spirally patterning.

Then it came time to hang everything up! Here I am figuring out what to put where.

Putting the final paintings on the wall and making sure everything is straight.

All done!

A couple close ups:

And then it was show time!

This is the other side of the gallery which featured one of my favorite Portland Oregon female artists: Laura Borealisis.

Another photo from the opening:

It was great fun, and a total success and will be up for the month at HomeBass PDX, so if you are in the area stop on in!

Big thanks to my hubby, Danny Ebru, for kindly documenting the mural creation, art hanging and show with these beautiful bright photos.

I will be updating on here soon about my Earth Goddess body art series, I have A LOT of material to share!

So stay tuned :)

With love and light,
-Chelsea Rose

New painting and new news

I finished this painting in January and have been meaning to post a blog about it for a long while now, but the universe had other plans. So here we are!

"Urban Goddess"
12"x16" original acrylic painting by Chelsea Rose

She started out as a pen and ink sketch on canvas:

And then I added the first layers of acrylic color:

Worked out the details:

Worked to add some highlights and shadow to the sky. Fogged out the cityscape to give it a bit of far away depth.

So thats my newest painting!

Lets see...what else is new?

I got some new post cards printed:

Its double sided.  Aren't they purdy!? Danny Ebru designed them for me. One side for my acrylic painting and the other for my body art photography. So for those who are planning on making a purchase or two from our online shop will be seeing these in with their orders along with a goodie or two :)

Speaking of body art, I recently released another photo from my "Earth Goddess" photoshoot with the lovely Asima:
This body painting and photo shoot was done in the Rooster Rock nudist beach and trails situated along the Columbia River Gorge.  See more photos and read about the experience here. I am excited to feel the end of winter, as spring has just begun to wake up here in Portland. Plans are being made for my next "Earth Goddess" body art session and I can hardly wait. So keep a look out for updates on that score.

To pass the wintery hermit time I have been playing with screen printing more and more:

Here are some still wet off the press screen prints over adhesive vinyl that I hand painted with acrylic to get the yummy colors you see.

...and here they are after being dried and cut out. I am selling these stickers on etsy now. Check out the sticker section of our shop! I have also been playing with screen printing on fabric again so there may be some shirts and tote bags popping up soon.

So thats my update.

Thanks for the continuing support and inspiration, world!

Sending love and light,
-Chelsea Rose

Goddess of Eternal Change, new acrylic painting

Hi there,

I wanted to start the new year off by introducing you to my newly finished painting:

"The Goddess of Eternal Change"
20"x24"
original acrylic painting on canvas
by Chelsea Rose

This painting was inspired by the Hindu goddess of time and change, Kali Ma aka The Dark Mother.

I painted this with the intention of seeking a greater understanding and respect for the ever changing nature of my self and the world around me. Change is often the result of turbulent times and experiences. Its often a harrowing thing to go through, a mini death in some ways. But out of death comes new life, beginnings, chance. All things that should be embraced with open arms.

Check out my creative process captured in these "work in progress" snap shots:

It started out as a hastily drawn pen and ink illustration in my sketch book.

The concept sketch eventually found itself transferred onto canvas.

The first bits of color began to be laid down.

Home studio portrait with the work in progress Kali Ma and my finished Mushroom Goddess painting. :)

First blocks of color in the hair.

Playing with the background to create strange undulating hills that recede into the glow.

putting some work into the details.

...And the finishing touches!

So that was that. What do you think?

I enjoyed painting the cyclops head so much that I imediantly began working on a new painting.
 Here is a sneak peak:

This is cropped way down, so your not seeing the full image. There be booooobies of course! Almost finished with her, so keep an eye out for updates shortly. Yay for powerfully beautiful mutant city-sliker nymphs!

And may I remind you.... of my beautiful hand drawn and hand screen printed sticker packs for sale amongst other wonderful goodies in my online etsy shop:

$10 for a 10 pack. Check out the listing here for more photos or to buy.

Oh oh oh! Or how about an amazing goddess art filled independently published calendar for the new year?

12 months of Goddess inspired art by pacific northwest artists, featuring my "Goddess of the Hunt" painting for August.

Here have a look inside:

$20 for a years worth of art. Check out the listing here.

As always, thanks for your support.

Sending Love and Light,
-Chelsea Rose

The Portland Goddess Show

I recently got the chance to put together an art show that featured goddess inspired artwork by some of my favorite artists in the Pacific Northwest: Laura Borealisis, Justin Slattum, Liv Rainey-Smith, Nicole Linde, Joanne Licardo, Matt Schlosky, Sam Arneson, Danny Ebru and many more.

The concept for the art show had all started with the want to promote The Portland Goddess Calendar:

--This super beautiful calendar that Danny Ebru and I self published features amazing local art that depicts and honors the sacred feminine. And is available for purchase here! --

But as the event began to take shape it became much more then a calendar release party. We scored a massive venue to hold the show in and began to plan big: lots and lots of artwork, murals, live music, live body painting and more.

And look! I got to paint my first ever big wall mural, right along side two amazing and kind artists:

Sam Arneson

and Matt Schlosky.

We painted the walls in such a way that the designs would frame the artwork once it was hung...and I LOVED the way it all turned out!

Here are some photos from the show( click them to view larger):

The event was blessed with three amazing local music makers:

Gaea, which is made up of a electrified cellist and a beautifully strong and vibrant female vocalist.

HeadShapes, a band I fell in love with while visiting an artist collective in vancouver in previous years. Their music is made with live looped vocals, and instruments creating a nest of sound and vibe that makes me feel like I'm floating in the strange loveliness of infinity.

Queen Bead, a local reggae/dance hall poet/shamaness

And of course I did some live body painting.

I had a ridiculous amount of fun painting live, big big thanks to my brave and lovely models Bran and Dawn :)

....And I think plenty of other people enjoyed themselves also.

This photo shows pretty well the nook I did live body painting in, accompanied by a super friendly and talented sculptor guy who had his own nude model to work with.

Portland Goddess Show
...and we had a great turn out too!

So yes, The Portland Goddess Show was a lot of hard work that quite a few inspired and generous souls came together to produce. It was certainly a learning experience in many ways and 100% worth it. And I couldn't help but share some photos and tidbits from the event with you.

Next on the agenda? Spending some time turning inward with my energy, embracing the urge to hibernate and spend many a cold rainy day at home painting, writing and working on music projects with my love. And I STILL haven't shared with you my recent explorations in the the realm of street art...so that too, and soon I hope :)

Sending Love and Light,
-Chelsea Rose
