Artwalks, new drawings, News update

Its been a jamm packed, super busy summer! and i suppose that only makes sense since winter was such a freeze in. the balance has certainly been restored and this past season of abundance has really done me some good. I feel i have been very productive especially with how fruitful my lil solo art show ended up. Plus we have been doing sooo well at the local art fairs and farmers markets. its all very encouraging and inspiring.

Speaking of art fairs... this past Last Thursday Art walk on Alberta st. was mad fun as per usual.

here is a picture of our setup:
September's Art walk booth

and i came with my full face/body painting set up and was busy painting all day/all night!
Face and Body painting

This time i seemed to get a lot of face painting requests which was different from the other art walks when everyone wanted a sleeve done up their arm, similar to the way i have my arm painted in the above photo.

We did well and i met some wonderful people, made some great connections. However we were saddened by some things: This time when we showed up to 20th and Alberta to set up like we always do, the entire grassy knoll/field area that usually ends up as a mini Rainbow gathering had a barbed wire fence around it! On the fence were nasty typed signs saying "Absolutely no art fair booths here!"....and then a block away a few entire sides of streets had the same signs posted. It seems that some of the property owners around the area are not so keen about sharing the neighborhood once and month with the art fair. Luckily i feel we have a strong amount of supporters. People understand how important it is to keep Last Thursday Art walk on Alberta going and going strong so i wouldn't be surprised to come next month and see that nasty barbed wire fence taken down. im crossing my fingers!
Despite all that bad weirdness we managed to do well, selling art prints, tie-dye and face paintings : )
....I even met a women who wants to curate a show with my artwork in spring! She is the art curator for a local PDX feminist bookstore called "In Other Words feminist bookstore"
(On the corner of N. Williams Ave. and N. Killingsworth St.) check out the website: http://www.inotherwords.org/ I have yet to go into the bookstore but im going to make it this week i hope. The curator seems to want to do a show in April or May. very good and exciting news!

I have some new drawings that i scanned in recently. So far i only have two ready for viewing, so here you go:
Harpy
Original pen and ink drawing
by Chelsea Rose
...this one is a Harpy. I have been drawing this creatures for the last couple weeks like mad! i think i will be doing a Harpy painting soon. Followed by a Sphinx drawing/painting!

and here is a lil pixie alien goddess lady:

...In other news, Danny and I are working on building an art portfolio website for me. So far we have the basic design ready to go and now we have to start collecting all the images of the artwork, sizing them and doing the html coding. The basic design of the site is all hand drawn and scanned in by me. I cant wait to go live with this website because i think its really looking wonderful already! I think this site will be an important tool for me. A good link to put on the back of my business cards! who knows, perhaps it will lead to more shows? Just seems like a good thing to have.

This morning was super chilly- perhaps the first cold day in Autumn. i cant wait to watch the leaves turn color...watch everything glitter with frost once again. Halloween in coming up! Cant wait to carve some jack o' lanterns and...i still have to come up with my costume. I seem to end up the same thing each year: some faerie, gypsy, witch lady. Maybe i will change it up this year!

Best wishes and many blessings to all,
-Chelsea Rose

the Manifestation of My solo art gallery show!

So it all truly materialized!
I took Thursday off from work and met Tiffany Ruth at her art gallery to begin the show set up process.
calm before the storm
We started out by lining up my art pieces along the wall to get an idea of how we were going to map the display. Tiffany Ruth was really the brains behind the display. She has an eye for color and presentation and so she worked her majick and came up with the order in which everything would be hung.
hanging the art
We started hanging my artwork from right to left in a staggered pattern.
Hanging my paintings for the show
Once we got everything up on the wall, then came the tricky part. Tiffany Ruth had a great idea to add some lace suspension. She had been inspired by the way the Victorians used to display their art by suspending them with lace and bow. So in this photo Tiffany Ruth is putting the first ribbon on the display. It was a veryyy tedious process of getting the lace on just right but Tiffany Ruth has some amazing determination and saw the idea through to completion.
We left the gallery at 8:00pm with butterflys in our stomach when thinking about the opening night on Friday.
Friday came quickly and before i knew it, it was 6 o clock and time for the show.

here are some snapshots danny took for me during the opening:

opening night for my art show
All in all, my art opening was a blessing and a true success. Thanks so much for all the support and love cuz thats what made this a great thing for me. I had a good turn out and sold 5 art pieces the first night! Met some really amazing people and had some super inspired conversations and made some great connections. In a sense i am relived that the big opening is over with because I am ready to focus on doing some more creating! i am full and bursting at the seems with a wealth of heightened inspiration. I have 12 14"x14" box gallery framed blank canvas that i am itching to begin a new series on. If i can manage to work all those Tiffany and I will be doing another show come next summer! So, yes- its been a truly blessed experience and i feel so very fortunate to have had this amazing thing materialize in my life. I'm hoping that this marks a new chapter for myself and my art and i cant wait for the next show to manifest its self in my life and the art community.

LOVE YOU ALL and THANK YOU!!
-Chelsea Rose

So, as one could probobly imagine im pretty busy getting everything together for the show.
Check out the crazyness that is my work bench:
creative outlet
I have all my large pieces ready to go for the show, but I am doing a series of smaller acrylic paintings with pen and ink illustration. Tiffany Ruth wants to hang them in between the larger pieces thinking it will create a good contrast. i really can hardly wait to see what everything will look like hung up and ready to go.
I'm also working on a handful of mini canvas pieces that i will display on mini easels around the gallery on the tables.
....last night I was daydreaming about the show and thought about how cool it would be to have someone there who would be painted by me from head to toe- walking around serving drinks and hangin out. Im not sure who i could find that would be willing to walk around in nothing but body paint for a few hours. but its fun to dream!

In the meantime, Danny has been doing some more screen printing. He re screened the popular design of mine " the Goddess in All of Us" so we have some new prints on shirts to be sold. check them out:

Enjoying these last moments of Summer

So we have made it to the month of September. I'm still working on getting all of my pieces ready for my Solo Show on Sept. 18th. As the date draws closer i feel both happy and anxious. Its going to be an important experience no matter what and the galley owner has an interesting idea on hanging my pieces by suspending them with black lace. cool sounding huh?

The other day I was not feeling all that wonderful- a bit stressed and out of balance. I happened to pick up one of my older sketch books and rediscovered a mermaid drawing in it which i actually found to be very comforting:
love thy self
"Love thy Self"
original pen and ink illustration
by Chelsea Rose
- I really enjoy that she is hugging herself, her eyes closed in perhaps inner reflection and meditation. This old drawing of mine reminded me to step away from all the noise of life including all of the self inflicted low confidence, negative thoughts and to just take a moment to breathe and above all LOVE THY SELF- no matter what is going on in life. We live and we learn. what else can we expect from ourselves?

In other news, my dearfull friend from afar Sara Aka Mag Pye on etsy ( check out her shop!) sent me a surprise in the mail:
Dread band surprise from sara!
She made me a special headband to hold up my locks with! Can you believe that she hand spun the wool, hand knitted this piece? there is so much love and positiveness in this headband. i can feel already that its going to be a good luck charm! Thanks so much for your beautiful gift, Sara!

And while Danny and I were visiting various parts of town to handout/post my Solo art show post cards we ended up wondering into this maze of an antique mall full to the brim with endless treasures. I was lucky to find myself the perfect sun hat:
Man Ray dress and new sun hat
i have been looking for this hat ALL summer long. I hate sunscreen and the idea was to find a hat i could wear out that would help keep the sun from turning me into a lobster. Annoyingly, almost every sun hat i seemed to cross paths with would not fit my head( because of my dreadies being so thick). But this hat is super comfy, has a nice soft velvet inside for the brim. It was $8. Oh, and also- check out my Man Ray dress- another item created by the amazing Sara. I saw this dress in her etsy shop and fell in love with it!
ready to face the summer day...sort of
I also found a pair of sunglasses in that antique mall. I have not had a pair since i lost the ones that my Grandmother gave me( she gives me her super cool vintage sunglasses when she tires of them). I'm usually not one to like to wear sunglasses but my eyes seems to have gotten a bit more sensitive in these last couple years.
So strangely enough, now that I am all ready for the summer sun with my hat and sun glasses- i find that summer is almost gone!
October is just around the corner. Where did summer run off to? Granted, its not really gone yet but i have already noticed some of the trees changing color! I remember my first Fall season in Oregon- it was bursting full of all sorts of interesting color. i really really cant wait for All Hollows Eve. I Have always loved Halloween-as a young girl i was thrilled at the prospect of getting to dress up in costume and parade around town begging for candy. Now, Halloween is a special day for Danny and I and it is then that we recognize or anniversary. Also, Samhain is drawing near and i have been invited by my dearfull friend Mr. Wonder to attend a celebration of Samhain at Wolf Creek sanctuary. I would certainly love to go for a few days, sleep in a tent on that beautiful big piece of land, sharing with the amazing individuals who keep the place going. Not to mention communing with the faeries! But Plans are still not solid. We will certainly be doing the Last Thursday Art walk on Alberta st. It turns out to be the day before Halloween.
here is a picture of Danny and I last year at the art walk during Halloween in our costumes:
Halloween at the Last Thrusday art walk on Alberta St
...im pretty boring. i am the same thing every year: some sort of gypsy/faery. I loved Danny's costume. CAUTION POLICE STATE!

By the way, Danny makes some really intense psychedelic music. Not long ago he created a music myspace page for his music projects:

he is called Bone and All
