Sixth Earth Goddess shoot: Triple Goddess + Portland Goddess 2013 Calendar PRESALE!

This weekend I did my sixth body art photoshoot for my ongoing series "Earth Goddess."
Earth Goddess

Earth Goddess

We were aiming to evoke and honor the Triple Goddess( Maiden, Mother and Crone.)

WIP Earth Goddess body painting
(Process photo by Danny Ebru.)
I painted three women in one sitting. It took me about two hours each to do the body adornment. This is a personal record for me! The location was a lovely faery cottage situated in the wooded foothills of southern Washington. It was such a fun art adventure! The interaction between the four of us was full of silliness despite the seriousness of the finished photos. I am so very excited and pleased with the entire experience and very glad to share these stunning first glimpses of the photoshoot with you. Hope you enjoy!

I would also like to introduce you to a new Lucid Optic Lab independent publication that is an art calendar featuring my acrylic painting "Goddess of the Hunt" for the month of August:

New Painting: The Deepest Garden

Happy Friday the 13th!

Just wanted to share my newest acrylic painting with you:

The Deepest Garden

"The Deepest Garden"
12"x16"
original acrylic painting on canvas by Chelsea Rose

The painting was inspired by Man Ray's famous photograph, A l'Heure de l'Observatoire: les Amoureux.
An interesting quote by the man himself:
""I paint what cannot be photographed, that which comes from the imagination or from dreams, or from an unconscious drive. I photograph the things that I do not wish to paint, the things which already have an existence." — Undated interview, circa 1970s; published in Man Ray: Photographer, 1981."

In other news, tomorrow I will be down at the Portland Saturday Market selling my art.

Its been awhile since I have done the market. I have been focusing so much on my Goddess body art photography series that most every weekend has been dedicated to those pursuits.

Blessings,
-Chelsea Rose

5th Earth Goddess body art photography shoot!!!

On Saturday I did the 5th body painting/ photoshoot of my Earth Goddess series :

....This shoot was the most challenging of the series so far but I am very excited with what we came away with.

The creative process went something like this:

Work In Progress

We decided to rent motel rooms( Thanks so much kickstarter backers!) in Oceanside for Friday night so that we could wake up at 3am and I could get to painting.  We were all pretty groggy and it was super weird waking up so early but we managed and I was done with the full body painting by 5:30am.

Earth Goddess - Oregon coast photo shoot

We got to the beach by 6am and I was super happy that we had decided to begin the creative process so early( even if it was a bit painful) because we had the entire beach to ourselves with some lingering misty/fog clinging to the horizon lines. It was so beautiful! My model Bran braved the cold early morning, sand bugs, rock climbing and so much more. She really deserves a big thank you for being so courageous and being willing to step out of her comfort zone for the sake of art!

Oh, and of course we also made time to poke around in the lush tide pools that were exposed due to the extremely dramatic low tide. There were so so so many sea anemones and star fish!

Anyhoo, my next photoshoot is planned for the weekend of the 21st. I think it will be a fascinating session if I can manage to pull it off. I will be painting three women in one sitting. Wish me luck!!

In other news, I am still painting and drawing as my messy art table can attest to:

My messy art table
messy means progress!

Work in progress. Interesting to look in black and white.
and here is a little black and white shot of my current acrylic painting in the works. This photo was taken a few weeks back when I was feeling stuck. Its interesting how looking at some of my super colorful work in black and white can really help me figure things out and break various mental blocks down. I just finished this painting today, so full color photos will be up soon!

And I have begun dragging around a sketch book, small enough to fit inside my purse:

Yet another mermaid drawing

When I was younger I was practically inseparable to my sketch books. I am happy to be getting back in the habit of always having one near.

Anyhoo, lots of new art is coming soon. Keep an eye out.

Much love and light,
-Chelsea Rose

New Earth Goddess shoot in Rooster Rock State Park

I am so SO happy to say that during the past weekend I did my fourth body painting/photoshoot session  for my Earth Goddess series!

We drove out to Rooster Rock State Park and set up a canopy near the clothing option section of the park and quickly got to painting:

WIP Earth Goddess series

My partner in all things Danny Ebru was there to lend a hand and impart words of wisdom. These work in progress shots are a curtesy of his presence.

Work In Progress shot : Earth Goddess series

I was super surprised at how quick this body painting session took to complete. Normally a full body painting takes me six hours yet it only took about 3 hours this time around!

Once the painting was done we began to hike through the trails in the clothing optional section of the park. The trails were lush and wound their way along the edge of the Columbia River Gorge. It was beautiful and full of wonderful little nooks to shoot in.

Earth Goddess photoshoot
My model Asima was brilliant. Her easy confidence, positive energy and personal wisdom really made for some exciting captures. I took over 400 photos in about two hours.
I have just begun to look through, sort and edit the photos.

Here are the first two finished photographs, roughly edited, that I have posted publicly:

Hope you enjoy them!
...More soon to follow so stay tuned... ( Danny managed to take a time lapse video of me painting Asima's face and neck. Keep a look out for that, it will be posted on our youtube channel  )

My fifth Earth Goddess shoot is this weekend. We will be painting and photographing in the "Cove" beach in Seaside at the crack o' dawn. Wish us luck!

Also, I want to say a big big big thank you to the generous and supportive souls who contributed to my kickstarter fundraiser earlier this year. I think about you all the time and feel so inspired. This project wouldn't be the same without your support. So, thanks again :)

Much Love and Light,
-Chelsea Rose
