I recently got the chance to put together an art show that featured goddess inspired artwork by some of my favorite artists in the Pacific Northwest: Laura Borealisis, Justin Slattum, Liv Rainey-Smith, Nicole Linde, Joanne Licardo, Matt Schlosky, Sam Arneson, Danny Ebru and many more.
The concept for the art show had all started with the want to promote The Portland Goddess Calendar:
--This super beautiful calendar that Danny Ebru and I self published features amazing local art that depicts and honors the sacred feminine. And is available for purchase here! --
But as the event began to take shape it became much more then a calendar release party. We scored a massive venue to hold the show in and began to plan big: lots and lots of artwork, murals, live music, live body painting and more.
And look! I got to paint my first ever big wall mural, right along side two amazing and kind artists:
Sam Arneson
and Matt Schlosky.
We painted the walls in such a way that the designs would frame the artwork once it was hung...and I LOVED the way it all turned out!

Check out this close up photo of my favorite piece in the show, a collaboration piece by Sam and Matt called Gaia, an acrylic painting on multiple wood panels.
The event was blessed with three amazing local music makers:
Gaea, which is made up of a electrified cellist and a beautifully strong and vibrant female vocalist.
HeadShapes, a band I fell in love with while visiting an artist collective in vancouver in previous years. Their music is made with live looped vocals, and instruments creating a nest of sound and vibe that makes me feel like I'm floating in the strange loveliness of infinity.
Queen Bead, a local reggae/dance hall poet/shamaness
And of course I did some live body painting.
I had a ridiculous amount of fun painting live, big big thanks to my brave and lovely models Bran and Dawn :)
....And I think plenty of other people enjoyed themselves also.
This photo shows pretty well the nook I did live body painting in, accompanied by a super friendly and talented sculptor guy who had his own nude model to work with.
...and we had a great turn out too!
So yes, The Portland Goddess Show was a lot of hard work that quite a few inspired and generous souls came together to produce. It was certainly a learning experience in many ways and 100% worth it. And I couldn't help but share some photos and tidbits from the event with you.
Next on the agenda? Spending some time turning inward with my energy, embracing the urge to hibernate and spend many a cold rainy day at home painting, writing and working on music projects with my love. And I STILL haven't shared with you my recent explorations in the the realm of street art...so that too, and soon I hope :)
Sending Love and Light,
-Chelsea Rose
This looks amazing lady!
ReplyDeleteHello Chelsea my name is Sophia Vega and I've been a follower of your art for quite some time now. I just wanted to let you know I have one of your pieces tattooed on my arm and so many people love it. I always direct them to your website so they can see all of your other amazing work. I hope one day when I am back in Portland I can come see your studio. I would love more than anything to have you paint and photo shoot with me next pregnancy. Absolutely amazing. I'll keep passing on your name and work as I travel along.
